Have a Go at Water Polo

Harbour City Hawks has a Have a Go at Water Polo programme in Term 1 2023. It will probably be available again in Term 4 2023, when the primary school competitions resume.

Players will learn basic water polo skills across eight one-hour sessions, and will be able to add more to their school team. This is designed for water polo players from Year 6-8 who are new to the game, or want to develop better foundation skills. We have around 20 primary school water polo teams this term, and we recognise that some players want extra training. (If your child is at a primary school that doesn't have a water polo team, but is keen to play, let us know, as we can often arrange for them to join other school teams short on numbers).

You can sign up for classes on:

  • Sundays at 4-5pm from Sunday 5 February 2023 to Sunday 2 April 2023.

Players need to be registered via the Harbour City Hawks website, and the $80 cost needs to be paid before coming to the pool. Classes are in the 5m diving pool at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre. Pool entry is not covered by the fee.

Participants need to be confident swimmers, able to swim 25m without stopping. The training sessions include some swimming, learning to tread water, and ball/water polo skills. Goggles are not needed. Participants will mix in with more experienced players in the same age group as appropriate.

Our two week free trial does not apply to this programme, as it has already been discounted to help encourage more people into the sport. This programme is also not available to any players who have signed up for Harbour City Hawks training before Term 1 2023, unless agreed by the club.

Parents are welcome to watch the session - spectators have free entry to WRAC. Children's pool entry is not covered by the session fee.
